FEBRUARY 23-27

We have began the Lenten Season.  Please continue to discuss Lent and what is means to your family.  We will begin adoration on Wednesday.  This is a time to reflect on those who need prayers and time to help others with prayer.

Last week I posted information regarding study guides.  It stated:

I am trying something new with the study guides for tests since it seems as if some students are still not taking home study guides.  It is very important that parents are involved in the process of helping your child with study skills also along with school.  WHEN THERE IS AN UPCOMING TEST A STUDY GUIDE IS DONE IN CLASS. STUDENTS WILL TAKE IT HOME AND IT NEEDS TO BE SIGNED THAT NIGHT BY A PARENT.  THIS SHOWS THAT YOU AS THE PARENT ARE MAKING A CONSCIOUS EFFORT IN HELPING YOUR CHILD SUCCEED.  IF IT IS NOT SIGNED I WILL TAKE PART OF YOUR CHILD'S RECESS AWAY SO PLEASE DO NOT TURN  THEM WHEN THEY ASK FOR HELP WITH THEIR STUDY GUIDE.  I AM ASKING YOU HELP IN GUIDING YOUR CHILD.  THANK YOU

WE ARE ALSO 1/2 WAY THROUGH THE THIRD QUARTER OF THIRD GRADE.  IT IS YOUR CHILD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO BE SURE THEY ARE KEEPING UP WITH ALL OF THEIR WORK AND WRITING IN THEIR PLANNER EVERY MORNING.  IF THEY DO NOT FINISH AN ASSIGNMENT IT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN HOME AND TURNED IN THE FOLLOWING DAY.  LATE WORK PASSED A DAY WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED.  IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS ARE BECOMING MORE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN WORK AND ACTIONS.  PLEASE INSTILL IN YOUR CHILD BY HELPING THEM TO BECOME MORE RESPONSIBLE.

Thank you for your time and God Bless

February 9-13

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ATTENDED AND HELPED DURING THE BIGGEST FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR!!! IT WAS VERY NICE TO SEE THE SUPPORT FOR OUR SCHOOL.  THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR TIME AND SUPPORT.

This week is a short week. We will have NO SCHOOL on February 13th or 16th in honor of President's Day.  School will resume on February 17th.  International Night will be tomorrow night from 6-8 pm.  If you are in need of hours you may help during the evening.

Progress reports will be going home on Thursday.  Remember we are 1/2 way through the school year.  It is very important that your child is not turning in late or no work at all.  This will be reflective on their progress reports.  It is your child's responsibility to turn in work when it is due.  Late will result in a lower grade.

Thank you to all the students and parents who were able to turn in their Brazil reports on Friday.  This helps in making our students responsible and able to prepare for their future in paying attention to detail.

Subjects:
Writing - we will be working on friendly letters and invitation writing
Spelling and Reading - TORNADO ALERT, spelling and reading test will be on Thursday.  There are 8 vocabulary words.  Your child is tested each week on the vocab words and needs to know the definition of the words.  If they are still struggling please help them at home every night.
Math - Ch. 11 Division with Remainders
Social Studies - CH. 6 Building Communities
Religion - Lent and ch. 18
Science - Unit B ch. 2 test Thursday, You will need to sign study guide tonight and return tomorrow

We will be having a Valentines party on THURSDAY AFTERNOON. Students may bring valentines but please only have them write who it is from not who the valentine is for.  This will make it much easier to pass out.  You may also send in candy to pass out but we will have a treat available for them.  Thursday will be a Free Dress but you must wear RED AND WHITE.  Jeans are acceptable.

Thanks again and feel free to contact me if needed.

COME AND SUPPORT OUR LADY OF MERCY SCHOOL!!

If you need volunteer hours you may offer to help during the Auction dinner or International night.

We will be busy preparing for International Night which will be held on February 10th from 6-8pm in the cafeteria.  Our class has been busy learning about Brazil.  We have been working on books in class along with each student completing information about their topic.  The report will be due on February 6th. If your child has lost the large white paper I do have more as needed.  You may use both sides of the paper if needed.  These reports to not have to be extravagant.  I want the children to do most of the work including the writing and pictures. They may print out pictures or draw about their topic.  These will be put together to make a class book about Brazil that may be shared for years to come.  Also if there is anyone looking for volunteer hours I will need help setting up around 1:30 in the afternoon then again from 5:30-8:30 to help pass out food during the evening.

We have been invited to Farm Safety Day which will be held on April 30th.  I am sending home permission slip this week.  If you are able to drive please fill out the form.  Thank you.
