April 13-17

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Vacation. We are well on our way through the end of the school year. Yes, we only have 6 week of school remaining.  This is very exciting and extremely important at the same time. We still have academic work to be done.  We will still be having regular work but to mix it up we will be doing some projects in class and at home.

We will having our Mini-Relay on Friday, April 17th.  Please check the family envelope or purple note that was sent home today for details.

We will also be attending Cherish tomorrow.  If you have signed up to drive there is a reminder in your child's planner.  Thank you

April 22 our class will be in the Spring Program. We will be singing "Take me out to the Ball Game" along with an interactive piece from "Casey at Bat".

English - Writing

Spelling and Reading - I have handed out the story My Fathers Dragon today.  We will be reading the book in class along with some reading at home.  The spelling list and vocabulary words are all from the story.  This week we will be reading Ch. 1 and 2.  There will be a booklet that goes along with the book that will be turned in for your child's reading grade.  Is is very important that the book does not get lost or misplaced as this will be a significant amount of their reading grade.  On Friday's we will have a comprehension test on the Chapters of the week.  I have encouraged the children not to go ahead because I do not want them to get confused with the chapters.  I like to read it with them and have class discussions.

Math - We will be having a math test on Thursday on Chapter 13.

Social Studies - We will continue to work on Ch. 9. I have sent home a note today with the details.  The letter is below.  I did not send home the white lined paper.  It will go home tomorrow.

Dear Parents,

In our Social Studies Unit we are discussing landmarks in the United States.  The students are very excited about the subject so I wanted to have them do a project about a Landmark.  Your student has chosen a landmark that they are to research and present to the class.

I have enclosed a large white paper with lines.  This paper needs to include a  drawing of the landmark along with 5 important facts.  You may use books or the Internet.  The landmark needs to be hand drawn and full of color.  I always tell the students there should not be any white spaces.  I understand that we are not all artists so they need to do the best that they can.  That is what makes the project original.  The writing needs to be handwritten in the student’s best writing.  I would like the writing to be printed.  In the past I have made student books and I enjoy looking back at these projects.  I am intending on using these book for future reference.

The second part of the project is to make a 2D or 3D landmark that the students will share with the class.  They are to be as creative as they can.  You may use clay, modge podge, beads, toothpicks, playdoh, paper, wood or any other items that will help make the project creative.

The students are extremely excited about this project and in looking at our calendar I want to give you enough time to complete the assignment.   The assignment will be due on Thursday, April 30th giving the students 2 weekends to complete the assignment.

Your child has chosen the landmark ____________________________________________________

It will be a big part of your student’s Social Studies grade.  Any assignments turned in late will be graded accordingly.  I understand that this time of year can be very busy with school, sports and other activities so please starts as soon as you can on this project.  Your child has already been brainstorming different ideas about the project.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Religion - Chapter 13 Follow the Church

Science - We have began a new chapter which will be Ch. 1 in the extension chapter. It is how Living things depend on one another.

Thank you and please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.  God Bless You!!

If you have read the BLOG please have your child write one fact about their landmark project in the social studies column of their planner.  Thank you
